MassTransfer Advisor
I'm at Bunker Hill and I took ENG-111. Will it transfer to UMass Amherst?
Yes — ENG-111 (College Writing I) at BHCC maps to ENGLWRIT-112 at UMass Amherst. It counts as a Gen-Ed Writing requirement and transfers as 3 credits.

Capabilities

A complete transfer advisor in a single window.

Every question a community-college transfer student is expected to know the answer to, available offline and answered with citations.

01

Course-by-course equivalency

Look up any community-college course and see exactly how it maps to UMass, Salem State, Bridgewater, and the rest of the MassTransfer network.

02

Transcript → credit estimate

Drop an unofficial transcript PDF. The app parses your courses locally, checks each one against MassTransfer, and tells you what counts.

03

A2B pathway eligibility

Check whether you meet the A2B Mass Transfer requirements (GPA ≥ 2.5, 60 transferable credits, the pathway curriculum) before you apply.

04

Answers cite the official policy

Every answer points back to the exact MassTransfer policy section, course record, or rule it came from, so you can double-check before talking to an advisor.

05

Speaks 4 languages

English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Vietnamese — the languages spoken in MA community college classrooms today.

06

Works fully offline

No accounts, no sign-in. After the first launch downloads the local model, every conversation stays on your own laptop.

In practice

A simple, four-step way to plan your transfer.

Designed around how transfer questions actually come up — one course, one school, one requirement at a time.

I

Install the app

Download MassTransfer Advisor once. The first launch retrieves the local model so the app can run on your own laptop; every launch afterwards works without internet, from anywhere — your campus, your dorm, or a kitchen table.

II

Ask a question in your language

Type a question about a specific course, a transfer pathway, your GPA, or a school you are considering — in English, Spanish, Portuguese, or Vietnamese.

III

Get a cited answer

The app checks the official MassTransfer course equivalencies and policy documents and replies with a clear answer, citing the exact source it came from.

IV

Confirm with your advisor

Bring the cited answers to your community-college advisor or your target school's transfer office. The app is a starting point for that conversation, not a replacement for it.

Note   The app is an independent tool, not an official MassTransfer service. Always confirm important academic decisions with a human advisor at your institution.
Audience

Designed for the students MassTransfer is intended to serve.

A

Current community-college students

Plan your semester so every credit you take actually lands somewhere at your target 4-year school.

B

Prospective transfer students

Decide between BHCC, MassBay, MWCC, RCC and the rest before you enroll — based on where you want to end up.

C

First-gen and ESL students

Get answers in your language, without an appointment, without paying for tutoring, and without being made to feel like you should already know this.

D

Counselors and advisors

A reference tool that cites MassTransfer policy directly. Bring it into a session to walk a student through their options.

Distribution

Free, open source, and released under the MIT license.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we hear most.

Q.01Why does the first launch take longer?
The installer itself is small (about 320 MB). The first time you open the app, it downloads the local language model from our distribution server — about 3.2 GB, one time only. After that, the model is stored on your computer and the app starts immediately, with no network required.
Q.02Does it really work offline?
Yes — after the first launch. Once the model is downloaded, the app never sends your transcript, your questions, or any other information off your computer.
Q.03Where does the data come from?
Course equivalencies come from the official MassTransfer Equivalency System. Policy answers come from the published MassTransfer pathway documents. Every answer cites the source it came from.
Q.04Is this affiliated with the Department of Higher Education?
No. It is an independent project built to help students navigate MassTransfer. Always confirm important academic decisions with a human advisor at your school.
Q.05Will there be a Windows version?
Planned. The current release is for Apple Silicon Macs. Windows and Intel-Mac builds are next on the roadmap.
Q.06Is the app free?
Yes. It is free to download and free to use, with no accounts, no ads, and no in-app purchases.
